The Works of Andy Warhol

Today was our last session on working on Andy Warhol inspired pop arts. This means that we had to get everything finished and put up on the wall to be displayed.

After all these weeks of hard work, painting and drawing. Everything is finally ready to be seen, by students, teachers and or parents.

Pop Arts Displayed on the Wall:
This is all of the pop arts we have made. The wall consists of digital pop arts made, food odes, celebrity and cartoon characters drawings and our drawed and painted name tags.

Chunks

4. Once cold, break into chunks. Store in an airtight container, separated with portions of nonstick baking paper.

Tips:

  • When cooking hot, sugary mixes like hokey pokey, take great care not to spill the mixture on yourself as it will cause bad burn.
  • In soggy weather, hokey pokey will draw moisture from the air and it may become quite damp and sticky and look like it's melting.
  • Transfer quickly to an airtight container to stop hokey pokey from deteriorating.

Lastly, enjoy your home made hokey pokey. Don't forget to follow the method properly.

The Works of Andy Warhol

This week we have been finishing all of our art works. So this means we have had to finish our celebrity or cartoon characters drawing, our name tags and our food odes.

All these artworks ended looking very good because people had patience and not rushed it.

I enjoyed drawing my Pizza and my cartoon character. I also enjoyed colouring both of them in and trying to make them look presentable.

I didn't enjoy when we had to paint and we didn't have any thinner paint brushes, so some of our artworks didn't look very detailed. I would've enjoy painting even more if we had thinner paint brushes.

My finished artworks:
This is my finished artworks. My artworks are the Pizza Ode, Owen drawing and the mix off the YouTube logo, Wifi sign and Adidas logo as my name tag.

There other peoples artwork included in this picture.

The Works of Andy Warhol

This week for Festival of the Arts we have been working on drawing a celebrity or cartoon characters.

We drew our celebrity or cartoon character on a A4 piece of paper and then trace it onto the other side of the paper. We then trace our drawings to an A3 piece of paper, and make a pattern for the colours.

My pattern:
Shoes to hair
Hair to shoes
Maple leaf colour to shoes
Skin colour to maple leaf
Nose colour to skin colour

My drawing:
This is Owen from Total Drama. I picked him as my favourite cartoon character because he has a personality everyone would love.

As you can see, one of the backgrounds isn't done yet. I am currently working on it, making it bright so that you can see it from far away.

I hope to finish this at a high standard before the deadline.

The World of Narrative Writing- Pack of Wolves

In writing I am learning how to write narrative stories. Using Andy Griffiths stories, as inspiration.

Before we started to write our narratives, we had to make a brainstorm first. Our teacher told us to use MindMup as a place where we would make our brainstorms.

Our teacher gave us 2 periods to make our brainstorms, though in the 2nd period she had us come sit down on the mat, and pulled out popsicle sticks that have names on them from the jar (this indicates that whoever's name is written on the popsicle stick, will have to share their brainstorm). But we didn't have to read it out loud ourselves, our teacher could read it for us. Once the people who had to share their brainstorms had read it out loud, or well.. Once our teacher had read it out loud, we are to give the students feedback and give them some ideas for their story. Our teacher also gave us the time to share our stories with the person sitting next to us, and give each other feedback.

The Dark Blue 100 Ride Bus Ticket

Author Description of Book:
Image result for the dark blue 100 ride bus ticket
When Carlo and his mother Jessica, accept a free bus ticket from a strange old woman in the supermarket, they are really only being polite. Secretly they think she must be slightly batty, with her talk about a hundred free bus rides to the supermarket at the end of the world. How absurd! And yet, right outside their supermarket, which is of the most ordinary, everyday kind, a Number 13 bus pulls up... dark and blue and with gold stars, just like the ticket.
Feeling suddenly adventurous, Jessica and Carlo take their seats... and nothing turn out the way you would except.

Because the wonderful supermarket is real- but so are the horrible Dowlers, who are plotting and scheming to destroy it. What begins with fun and laughter becomes violent and dangerous, and the courage of a pair of resourceful children will be needed if the horrible, howling Dowlers are to be defeated.

What did I like/didn't like about the book?
I like how it included magic and how it could make you so interested. To be honest, I don't really dislike anything about this book, I think the author has written it very well.

What would have I changed?

The World of Otamahua/Quail Island

Image result for quail island pepper treesWhat does the name Otamahua mean? Where does the name come from?
Otamhua means The Place Where Children Collected Sea Bird's Eggs.
It's from the pepper trees found in the island.

Image result for captain william mein smith

Where did the name Quail Island come from?
It is from Europe, as Captain William Mein Smith gave it its European name when he saw quails on the island. So from reading between the lines it tells me that there's a possibility it is from Europe.

Image result for quail islandHow big is the island?
81 Hectare Area (Ha), with a high point of 86 metres.

What wildlife is present on the island-native/introduced?
Image result for wildlife on quail islandBirds such as black-backed/karoro and red-billed gull/tarupanga, white-flippered penguins/korora, terns, shags and oystercatchers are often noticed from the observation point. Fantails/piwakawaka and grey wablers/iroriro can also be found on the island.
Banks Peninsula weta have recently been moved to the island- you may spot man made built weta homes stuck to the trunks of manuka trees.
On warm summer days you can spot lizards, geckos and skinks.

Image result for shellfishMahinga kai, food gathering was an important activity for Maori. What food did they gather from Otamahua?
They gathered Shellfish, Flax, Bird eggs and other food.

How have introduced species (animals/birds/insects) damaged the environment?
Image result for ratsRats and rabbit ate most of the native eggs on the island.

Image result for quail island leper colonyWhat rules has DOC created to help protect Otamahua?
No any animals allowed
No fires (except gas-fried BBQ's)
Be respectful of all wildlife, plants, natural and historic features
No rubbish left on the island
No unauthorised vehicles (including mountain bikes) allowed
Camping is not allowed, except for designated areas
Bait stations and predator traps in use at all times. Read the warning signs on the wharf and around the island
Do not remove the rocks from the sea wall along the beach

Image result for quail island leper colony
Having these rules could be saving the wildlife, plants, natural and historic features on the island. This also makes the island safer for others, and makes it more of a public attraction. With these rules around the living things in the island would be safe, and people who want to learn about these could learn them without the fear of being in a dangerous situation.

What is Kaitiakitanga?
Kaitiakitanga= Guardianship
Kaitiaki= Guardian- Look after it
Tanga=To do something

What is Sustainability? -> Sustainable
-Keeping things for next generation
-Making sure there is some left
-Replacing what we take

What is a Rahui Tapu?
Sacred/ Restricted

A barrier that forbids you from going to a sacred place.

What do Kaitiakitanga, Sustainability & Rahui Tapu mean in relation to Quail Island?
Image result for antarctic expedition

Kaitiakitanga means to look after something or to do something. We are to look after Quail Island because it is a sacred place, this island was used as a quarantine station and was also used to train animals for the Antarctic Expedition. If we do not look after our island then it could cease to exist for the next generation, we need to make sure that Quail Island is still there for the next generation, and if we do take something from it we need to have a replacement for it.

The Amazing World of Wonder!

What the book is about:
The wonder book is about a boy with a "deformed" face going through middle school.

At first the principal has asked a few students (Julian, Jack and Charlotte) to show Auggie around the school. Everything was going well until Julian decided to mess it up by asking Auggie what happened to his face because it looked like he was in a fire. So Charlottle and Jack came to the rescue and protected Auggie.

Image result for wonder book breacher prepThe first day of school finally came and August entered the day with a lot of stares from the other students. No one would talk to him, well except for Julian and Charlotte.
He was eating alone at lunch until a girl named Summer decided to sit with him. At first Auggie thought it's because she's been asked to sit with him, but she reassuringly told him that she just wanted to sit with him.
Image result for wonder book blood scream

Halloween came and everyone in Breacher Prep was all dressed up. Auggie's mum made him a costume but Auggie decided to change his costume at the last minute, because he found out Julian was wearing a costume that was somehow connected to the costume he was going to wear.
Image result for wonder book jackWhen Auggie got to school he went to his classroom and over heard Julian's group talking about him (they didn't recognise him cause he was wearing a costume that covered his face). He was hurt when he heard Jack talk rubbish about him. He and Jack were really good friends and it just hurt him.

Auggie ignored Jack after hearing that. Jack noticed this and he didn't know why, so he decided to ask Summer but all Summer said was "Bleeding Scream".
A few days later, Jack said sorry after realising what he said and they became best friends again.

Breacher Prep went to watch a movie at a cornfield, this was meant to be a fun activity for their camp but some older students from other school decided to make fun of Auggie and Julian's friends ( Amos, Miles and Henry) got into a fight with the older kids.
Image result for wonderAfter the incident at the cornfield the girls from Breacher Prep were asking Auggie if he was okay and when they got back to school a lot of students started interacting with Auggie.

In the end everything was great and everyone was happy. Not a lot of people were being mean to Auggie. So I can say that it was a happy ever after ending.
What did I like/didn't like about the book?

This period I learned how to do trick on the trampoline and on the mat. I was able to do a forward roll on the mat. I did a seat drop, 10 jumps, half a turn and a tuck jump on the trampoline. I also learned how to get up and swing on the parallel bars.

Creation Of The World!

What am I learning about?
I have been learning about how the earth was created in the maori world.

How does this work show my learning?
I think this shows my learning because I have finished the task I was given, and I think I have finished it in a good standard.

Questions:
What do you think I should do next time?
What do you think I could improve on?
Are there any improvements I can make?

Poetry Anthology!

For writing we have been working on writing poems. Our teacher has asked us to create a blog post about the best poem we have created.

I have 2 poems I think I wrote the best. It is my Metaphor and Simile poem.

Manic Metaphor:
Me
I’m a rock
Not moving
I’m a heart
I break sometimes
I’m a volcano
I explode after a while
I’m a diary
People tell me their secrets
I’m a car
Running out of fuel after a while

Super Simile:
I’m like a diary
People tell me their secrets
I’m small like a diary
Can’t be seen until you’ve had a good look for me
I’m full like a diary
I have so much things that people don’t know
I’m locked like a diary
You can’t open me unless you have a key
