'Abomination' by Robert Swindells.

In this novel, a young girl named Martha Dewhurst is stuck living in a life where she can't do anything she wants. She can't listen to pop music, watch TV, and she can't wear shop bought clothes.

My static image portrays the idea that you can't always get everything you want in life, and that sometimes it could be depressing.

In my static image, the musical notes represent the music. The microphone represents pop music singers. The dress on the MP3 player screen represents the clothes she badly wants to wear. The forbidden sign represents how the music playing on the MP3 player is forbidden, and how the dress is also forbidden. The earphones represent how Martha likes pop music because she wants to listen to them. The quote on the screen acts like the lyrics playing from the song.  

I have included musical notes, a microphone, dress, MP3 player and earphones to my static image because these are the elements I need in order to show my idea for the quote I have chosen. I think these elements I have picked will really show the audience what I'm trying to portray, and how it connects to the quote.

My static image is not that colourful, this is because I'm trying to portray how not being able to do things can make your life dull and depressing. The only colourful object in my image is the dress. The reason for that is because that dress is her hope, and it's one of the things that can save her from her depressing life. The dress also acts as the representative for the clothes Martha wants to wear. The rest of the objects in my image is colour in black or gray. My background is the colour white because it represents how boring and plain Martha's life is. These three colours represent depression, sadness, and boringness, and those are the reasons why I have chosen to use them in my image. 

I used the quote "I like pop music, and TV and clothes but I can't have them. They're forbidden" to show that even the simplest things in life can be forbidden sometimes. 

The Works of Andy Warhol

Today was our last session on working on Andy Warhol inspired pop arts. This means that we had to get everything finished and put up on the wall to be displayed.

After all these weeks of hard work, painting and drawing. Everything is finally ready to be seen, by students, teachers and or parents.

Pop Arts Displayed on the Wall:

This is all of the pop arts we have made. The wall consists of digital pop arts made, food odes, celebrity and cartoon characters drawings and our drawed and painted name tags.

Quick and Easy Way to Make Hokey Pokey

Ingredients:
1/2 cup of Sugar
1/4 cup of Golden Syrup
2 tsp of Baking Soda

Materials:
Saucepan
Wooden Spoon
Aluminium Foil or Tin

Method:

Sugar

1. Put sugar and golden syrup in the saucepan and bring to boil. Stir ingredients continuously until it dissolves. Boil for 4 minutes.

Foaming

2. Remove pan from heat. Add in baking powder and quickly mix until it foams (mix quickly or the ingredients will set in the pan).

Cooling and Setting

3. Pour immediately onto aluminium foil or tin and leave to cool and set.

Chunks

4. Once cold, break into chunks. Store in an airtight container, separated with portions of nonstick baking paper.









Tips:

• When cooking hot, sugary mixes like hokey pokey, take great care not to spill the mixture on yourself as it will cause bad burn. 
• In soggy weather, hokey pokey will draw moisture from the air and it may become quite damp and sticky and look like it's melting. 
• Transfer quickly to an airtight container to stop hokey pokey from deteriorating.

Lastly, enjoy your home made hokey pokey. Don't forget to follow the method properly.

The Works of Andy Warhol

This week we have been finishing all of our art works. So this means we have had to finish our celebrity or cartoon characters drawing, our name tags and our food odes.

All these artworks ended looking very good because people had patience and not rushed it.

I enjoyed drawing my Pizza and my cartoon character. I also enjoyed colouring both of them in and trying to make them look presentable.

I didn't enjoy when we had to paint and we didn't have any thinner paint brushes, so some of our artworks didn't look very detailed. I would've enjoy painting even more if we had thinner paint brushes.

The Works of Andy Warhol

This week for Festival of the Arts we have been working on drawing a celebrity or cartoon characters.

We drew our celebrity or cartoon character on a A4 piece of paper and then trace it onto the other side of the paper. We then trace our drawings to an A3 piece of paper, and make a pattern for the colours.

This is Owen from Total Drama. I picked him as my favourite cartoon character because he has a personality everyone would love. 

As you can see, one of the backgrounds isn't done yet. I am currently working on it, making it bright so that you can see it from far away.

I hope to finish this at a high standard before the deadline.

The World of Narrative Writing- Pack of Wolves

In writing I am learning how to write narrative stories. Using Andy Griffiths stories, as inspiration.

Before we started to write our narratives, we had to make a brainstorm first. Our teacher told us to use MindMup as a place where we would make our brainstorms.

Our teacher gave us 2 periods to make our brainstorms, though in the 2nd period she had us come sit down on the mat, and pulled out popsicle sticks that have names on them from the jar (this indicates that whoever's name is written on the popsicle stick, will have to share their brainstorm). But we didn't have to read it out loud ourselves, our teacher could read it for us. Once the people who had to share their brainstorms had read it out loud, or well.. Once our teacher had read it out loud, we are to give the students feedback and give them some ideas for their story. Our teacher also gave us the time to share our stories with the person sitting next to us, and give each other feedback.

What did I like/didn't like about the book?
I like how the book includes mystery solving but also fashion. This is a good book for people who like mystery and fashion at the same time.

What would have I changed?
I wouldn't change anything in this book. I think people who love mystery and fashion will love this book.

Readers Theatre

What am I learning?
I am learning how to read a script, read with expression and to read out loud.

Writing Goal!

My goal in writing is:
My goal in writing is to get better at my structure and language. I am currently at level four according to the rubric score.

I have chosen this goal because:
I have chosen this goal because I feel like I really need to get better at it. It is the only level four in the rubric score, so I really think that I should work really hard to get it to a level five or six.

To achieve this goal I will need to:
Learn the difference between present tense and past tense, and use the right tense in my future writing.

The Importance of Empathy

Empathy: The ability to understand someone else's feelings as if they are your own.

What I learnt:

Empathy Can Change the World:

1. Empathy takes work and practice, and it requires for us to stop thinking of ourselves but to think of others. 
2. Empathy encourages peoples hope, peoples love, and peoples tolerance.
3. Getting out your comfort zone is a great way to make people smile.

"If we could see insider other's heart":

1. Peoples expression don't always show what they are going through or feeling.
2. It's easy for some people not to notice when someone is feeling down because something good just happened to them.
3. People can't always notice when something is wrong with someone.

Why I think empathy is important:
I think empathy is important because, if we could not feel or understand the same feeling as someone then sometimes we could go overboard with our actions without knowing it.

Empathy is an active attempt to understand another persons perspective their emotions and in essence their reality. 

We are social animals and our ability to communicate and understand each others emotional states is key to maintaining a relationship. 

It is little wonder that the ability to empathise is hardwired directly into our brains.

I learned how to set up a chart and how to do shortcuts to make it a lot easier.

• I also learned that GROUP 2, had more yellow M&M's than GROUP 2

What we are learning: We are learning about how the school is a community.

How I think this work shows my learning: This work shows my learning because it shows that I know what a community is, and what our school values are.  

If I did this task again what would I do differently: If I did this task again I would show what the school values mean to me, show what different roles staffs and students have and how important they are to our school. Because the C.A.R.R values are important to our school because without it our school would be complete chaos, along with these values we show different values too, but they have not been mentioned.

Why do we have the C.A.R.R values? Why not other values? Is there something important with these values? Is there something with these values that other values do not have?
