Memoir

SARAH GET UP AND GET READY FOR SCHOOL!” That was the first sentence I heard early in the cold frosty morning, I was hoping that the weather would be the same thing in movies, where it’s sunny and everyone’s smiling, but it’s the complete opposite. I groaned and lazily got up, I wasn’t that excited for the first day of school.

I arrived at school and felt like everyone was looking at me and judging me. I was feeling anxious, I was asking myself a variety of questions. Was my skirt too long? Was I meant to button up my cardigan? Were my shoes meant to have straps on them? How come their skirts are short? Why do they look different from me? I didn’t see any of my friends yet, so I stayed under a tree, I thought I looked like a child that had just lost their mum in the supermarket.

I was in the middle of my daydreaming when suddenly I heard the school bell ring, I saw someone lining up behind a group of girls, so I decided to line up there too. While I was in the line, I saw my friends talking to one another, all of my closest friends were in a different class, so it’s a pity that they’re not in my class, but I still had people whom were kinda my friends in my class.

After about a decade of waiting in the line, the teacher finally showed up. She stood in front of the line, waiting for us to quiet down. We all lowered our voices and waited for our teacher to give us her instructions. She smiled and let us in our new classroom.

Statistical Investigation

What did you learn?
I learnt that a lot of students own a device or use one, and that some students sleep earlier than 8pm and a lot later than 11pm.

What would you do differently if you did it again?
I would put more graphs and explain our conclusion more.

What question would you still like to know more about?

Would sleeping earlier than 8pm help us focus more in school?

Would sleeping later than 11pm be a bad choice? As we don't get more sleep.

Kete (Which will drop first?)

Prediction -> I think the 5kg medicine ball will hit the ground first because it is a lot heavier, and with the help with gravity it'll get pulled down more.

Equipment:
  • 1x 5kg medicine ball
  • 1x normal standard basketball

Spinning bucket

Discover the World-Kupe- Reflection

What we have been learning:

  • Explain New Zealand's national identity and how it has been shaped.
  • How cultural practices become shared experiences and part of national identity.
  • Demonstrate citizenship skills.

I think this shows my learning because I took the responsibility of finishing this task on time, and finished it to a high standard.

This shows my learning because I showed my understanding of the New Zealand celebrations and their culture.

This shows my learning because I showed that I understood the Maori culture and their myths. I also shared a cultural piece of New Zealand internationally. I also presented it to a high standard.

I think this shows my learning because I showed my understanding of Kate Sheppard's life, and I also presented it to a high standard.

If I did this kete again what would I do differently?

If I did this task again I would've chosen other tasks, because some of the task I chose took a long time. For example my slides about places around New Zealand took a long time finishing.

Something I am wondering? A question I have/ have learnt or have the found the answer to.

Questions:

If I worked on my tasks and at home would have it made a difference? If I chose other partners would have it made a difference?

Something I learnt:

I didn't know about Kate Sheppard's life, but after doing a research about her I can say I know a lot of things about her.

I have also learnt about Maori myths, and Maori culture.

Something I'm wondering:

If Kate Sheppard didn't fight for women rights, who could've fought for it?

Forces

Aim: To understand forces, to create the most stable, straight line paper plane flight.

Hypothesis: Although I'm not going to make a paper plane, I still predict that it would go about half away.

Forces on a paper plane

Forces can make your paper plane balanced, if your plane is balanced then it can fly straight.

Gravity: Gravity is the force that pulls the plane down
Drag: Drag is the force that pulls back the plane
Thrust: Thrust is the force that pulls the plane forward
Lift: Lift is the force that lifts the plane, making it stay in the air

Method:

  1. Fold A4 piece of paper in half (long ways).
  2. Then open it back
  3. Fold the top corners into the centre.
  4. Then fold the corners again to the centre.
  5. Then fold it in half (long ways).
  6. Then fold the wings outwards.

Results:

Our plane flew up to half of the room and then went another direction. We didn't really get the measurement of how long our plane went.

In our practice the plane flew all the way across the room but when it was the real thing something changed in our plane.

Discussion:

I learned that, different paper planes can fly different distance. Some are great that they can fly across the room and some good that they can fly up to half of the room.

I wouldn't really change anything because the plane we made was really great. It could fly across the room but there was just a slight change when they threw it.
